Young at Art

The current show at The Deines Cultural Center is featuring “Young at Art” an exhibit of art in a variety of media by students attending U-S-D 407 schools. The art is from students at Simpson and Bickerdyke Elementary Schools and Ruppenthal Middle School in Russell, Russell High School, Luray-Lucas Elementary and Lucas-Luray Junior High and High School.

District 407 students receive art education from Andrea Blehm and substitute teacher Virginia Rohleder (RHS), Cindy Balthazor (RMS), and Carolyn Bigham (K-12 Lucas & Luray). Russell elementary students are taught art by their classroom teachers and have prepared special projects for this exhibit. Each class will have a project exhibited in the lower level gallery of the Deines Cultural Center.

The multi-media show, sponsored by The Russell Arts Council and The Kansas Arts Commission opens Sunday, March 29th with a reception from 2 to 4 pm at The Deines Cultural Center for the students, their parents, teachers and friends. The public is invited to view the work of today’s young artists in “Young at Art” which will be up through April 19th.

The Deines Cultural Center is located at 820 North Main in Russell, admission is free and the Center is open Tuesday through Friday from 12:30- 5:30 pm, Saturday and Sunday 1:00 –5:00. The Center is accessible to those with disabilities. Operation is made possible in part by a grant from the Kansas Arts Commission, a state agency and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
