An Artistic Discovery
Artwork by High School Students in the First Congressional District
Exhibit: May 3 - May 30, 2009
Reception: Sunday, May 3, 2 - 4 pm

Congressman Jerry Moran will be at the opening reception of An Artistic Discovery this Sunday at the Deines Cultural Center, 820 N. Main in Russell. Moran will present awards to the Best of Show, Runner-Up and Honorable Mention selected in the First District’s 2009 Congressional Arts Competition for high school students. He will also present first and second place awards in painting, drawing, collage, printmaking, mixed media, computer generated art and photography.

Over 100 pieces of student artwork have been submitted from Colby, Hays, Hutchinson, Little River, Lucas/Luray, Osborne, Sacred Heart in Salina, St. Xavier in Junction City, Wheatland and Weskan. The work will be judged by Tobias Flores, Assistant Professor of Art at Fort Hays State University.

All artwork submitted for An Artistic Discovery will be on exhibit at the Deines Cultural Center until May 17th. The best-of-show winner’s artwork will then be sent to Washington, DC to be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

Sunday’s reception is from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. The public is invited. The Center is accessible to those with disabilities.
