The Deines Cultural Center will be featuring “Past and Present. . . Vietnam and Cambodia”, a photography exhibit by Cindy Ewing. The show opens with a reception on Sunday, October 18th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and continues through November 25.

Cindy Ewing is a native of Russell now living in California and the Philippines.

In this show, she shares her artistic photographs in the ninth show in a decade of shows.

“Past and Present. . . Vietnam and Cambodia”, includes sixty-six images in a push pin exhibit showing photographs taken during a visit last summer. Ewing’s trip to the area recreated a leg of her grandparents’ study tour around the world in 1924.  On that trip, her grandfather, Davis Ewing, journalized and photographed and declared Angkor Wat to be his favorite place.  After the study tour, he translated the history of the thousand-year-old Angkor Wat, temple complex from French to English.

The exhibit at the Deines Cultural Center includes images of the elder Ewing’s journal pages and photographs of the past in contrast to the present images by Cindy Ewing.

The Deines Cultural Center is located at 820 North Main in Russell, admission is free and the Center is open Tuesday through Friday from 12:30-5:30 pm, Saturday and Sunday 1-5 pm.  The Center is accessible to those with disabilities.

Operation of the Center is made possible in part from a grant from the Kansas Arts Commission, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
