These three paintings were an inspired addition to Elaine Clampitt’s Canines and Otherwise show in late 2011 at the Deines Cultural Center.

Clampitt made special preparations for her show in Russell.  She said, “I studied the work of E. Hubert Deines. His work is truly amazing. In a post mortem way, I collaborated with Mr. Deines to create a few paintings. I’m feeling his influence and wonder if others will sense it, too.”

Her three choices were Deines’ “November Recessional” which she interpreted as “Wandering in Deines Country”, “Flowers of Westport” and “February Magic” which became “Round February Chill”.  Each one has a dog (Elaine Clamitt’s painting specialty) in the composition.

This is the first time someone has interpreted Deines’ black and white prints into large full-color paintings.  “They are so lovely and uplifting and the dogs add such a note of cheerfulness.” says Nancy Selbe, Deines Cultural Center director.

Operation of the Center is made possible in part from a grant from the Kansas Arts Commission, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
